Do you love astronomy? You can now enjoy gazing into the stars and discovering the paths of amazing heavenly bodies with a timepiece. Van Cleef & Arpels, in partnership with Christiaan van der Klaauw, have created a stunning astronomical watch called Midnight Planétarium, featuring six Solar System planets rotating around the sun. The planets are represented by opulent jewels and are accurately encircling the center of the gravity, giving you the most precise hint about what’s going on outside our skies.

The six main planets can be distinguished by their size and color, as well as the precious and semi-precious stones they are represented with. Round spheres of turquoise, serpentine and jasper encircle the diorama along with glitters of stars within the black face. Users can choose a “lucky day” where owners can select a time when the Earth coincides with a star.

It’s fun to gaze watching the little planets making their “rotation.” Mercury takes a round ever 88 days; Venus, every 224 days; Earth, every 365 days; Mars, every 687 days; Jupiter, every 12 years (now that’s quite long!) and Saturn, every 29 years. You may be wondering where Uranus and Neptune are. The manufacturers disclosed that these two planets hardly even move that adding them wouldn’t make much significance. Uranus takes more than 80 years to make a single rotation, and for Neptune, a whopping 164 years! That’s far longer than anyone’s lifetime.

You may also be surprised at how sky-high the price for this astronomical is. This timepiece costs $245,000. Midnight Planétarium was first unveiled at Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, Geneva this January.
